# Reward scaling

Why flat rewards in quests, daily rewards, codes and similar are multiplied, and how to tune it.

Coins become worth less and less as a player climbs, because later zones pay far more per kill. A reward of "1,000 Coins" would be huge on day one and meaningless in World 4.

To fix that, flat rewards are written in **units** and multiplied at payout time:

* **Coins scale** = (price of the most expensive zone the player has unlocked) divided by (price of the cheapest paid zone). A player who can afford zones 1000x the first zone's price gets 1000x the listed Coins.
* **Essence scale** follows the Essence drop of the player's world, so a flat Essence reward keeps pace with what a kill drops.
* **Gems are never scaled**, because Gems are the premium currency.

The scale is applied to rewards from:

Daily rewards, quests, achievements, killstreaks, chat games, promo codes, the Season Pass, Profile Level rewards, pet milestones, pet sell value, the AFK pool, crate rewards and the Admin Panel "givekills" tool.

### What this means when you edit a reward

* Write rewards as a small **unit** number. `currency: 250` does not pay 250 Coins to a late player. It pays 250 times their scale.
* Do not add a scale yourself.
* To make a reward stronger for everyone, raise the number. To make it a fixed amount, use a console command reward (`commands:`) instead.
* Zone prices are the only input, so **changing zone prices changes every scaled reward**. That is intentional: rewards track progression.

### Hoarding protection

Achievements and Season Pass levels remember the scale at the moment they became **ready to claim**, and use that stored scale when claimed. Waiting a month to claim does not pay out more.

### Crate rewards

Crate rewards read "Coins (N mob kills)": the amount is what N kills in the furthest zone the player has unlocked would pay, including their stats.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://lethium.gitbook.io/lethium-docs/configuration/reward-scaling.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
